Give a few examples of how capitalism asks us to see past the short-lived satisfaction that revenge seems to offer and channel our fear and resentment in a productive direction to achieve our values rather than to deprive others of theirs.

Example 1: Under capitalism, the productive “one percent” (an ever changing group) become even wealthier because they keep more of their tax dollars (they currently pay about 50% of all federal taxes). However, that they reinvest most of their money in business ventures, thereby creating new jobs and better and cheaper products and services. And often they give some of their money to charity, giving the unfortunate a better chance at improving their lot.

Example 2: Deregulation eliminates the power of Wall Street cronies as they don’t have any regulatory levers left to pull. The power of the inside-the-beltway types shrinks as the size of government shrinks.

Example 3: Immigrants pose no threat, as they have no welfare statist programs to take advantage of, and they earn jobs within a free business environment with chronic labor shortages. Yes, multinational companies continue to move jobs abroad in search of cheaper labor, but that in turn makes the products and services you consume cheaper. And for every job lost, at least one new is created at home in industries propelled by the quest for the unimagined. Often the new jobs pay more and provide more satisfaction than those that were lost.
